Short answer: Pick the job by the state of your file: monthly bookkeeping if it is current, cleanup if it is wrong, catch-up if months are missing, and emergency work if a date is fixed. Contractors usually add job costing.
Bookkeeping cleanupYour books exist, but nobody trusts them. Cleanup fixes the file so the numbers mean something again.
Catch-up bookkeepingFell behind during a busy season? We bring the missing months current, oldest month first.
Emergency bookkeepingA deadline is close and the books are not ready. We sort what has to be right first.
Monthly bookkeepingEvery month, your accounts get reconciled and your reports get closed. You stop doing it on weekends.
QuickBooks cleanupFix the QuickBooks file you have instead of starting over from nothing.
QuickBooks bookkeepingQuickBooks Online works when somebody sets it up right and closes it every month.
Xero bookkeepingUsing Xero already? We keep it reconciled, tracked and closed every month.
Bank reconciliationIf the books do not match the bank, nothing else in them can be trusted.
Small business bookkeepingFor the family business, the shop and the service company that has outgrown the kitchen-table books.
Job costing bookkeepingKnow which jobs made money before you bid the next one.
Tax-ready booksWe get the year closed and reconciled. Your CPA gets a file they can file from.
R&D tax creditIf you build, test and improve products or processes here, some of that work may qualify.

- Riverside and San Bernardino County sales tax by cityThe Inland Empire has more than one sales tax rate. The right one depends on where the goods end up.
- What to send your bookkeeperA checklist so the first week is work, not chasing paperwork.
Start from where your books are
Books are current but you are tired of doing them: monthly bookkeeping. Books exist but nobody trusts them: cleanup. Books stopped somewhere last year: catch-up. A lender, an auditor or the CPA needs numbers this month: emergency bookkeeping.
Every service runs in QuickBooks Online or Xero, and every one ends the same way, with reconciled accounts and reports you can use.
What the file tells us
A bookkeeper looks at a few things in the first ten minutes. Each one points to a different job.
| What we see in the file | Likely job | First thing we check |
|---|---|---|
| Uncategorized transactions in the thousands | Catch-up bookkeeping | The last month that ties to the bank statement |
| Opening balances that do not match last year's tax return | Bookkeeping cleanup | The return your CPA filed, against the balance sheet |
| Undeposited funds that keep growing | QuickBooks cleanup | Payments recorded twice: once as a deposit, once as a sale |
| Every job lumped into one income account | Job costing bookkeeping | Whether invoices and bills carry a job or class |
| A loan or a bid package due this month | Emergency bookkeeping | Which reports and which months the lender asked for |
| Clean books, but no time to keep them | Monthly bookkeeping | Bank feeds, rules and the close calendar |

Not sure which one?
Most owners are not. A file can be behind and wrong at the same time. The first call sorts it out: tell us your software, the last month you trust, and why you need the books now. You leave the call knowing which job it is.
Questions
Can I start with a cleanup and stop there?
Yes. Some owners want the books fixed once and then keep them up in house. Most move to monthly work after, but that is your call.
Do you do payroll?
Tell us what you need on the call. We record payroll in the books from your payroll provider's reports either way.
Do you work outside Riverside and San Bernardino counties?
This site serves the Inland Empire. If your business is elsewhere in Southern California, ask on the call and we will point you the right way.
